Wie ooit de avant-gardistische opera uit 1904 van Richard Strauss heeft gezien zal Salom\u00e9 nooit meer vergeten. Ook hiervoor verwijs ik naar Wikipedia, waar de opera (gecomponeerd naar een roman van Oscar Wilde) toegelicht wordt. Hier voldoet het verhaal dat de dans van Salom\u00e9 leidde tot de onthoofding van Johannes de Doper die we in een volgend gedicht terug zien keren.<\/p>\n<p>In de linteau van het portaal zijn twee sterk verweerde vrouwenfiguren te zien, waarvan de gekruiste benen het beeld van een dans oproepen. In Nederland komt dit onder meer voor bij het beeld van de Oudtestamentische rechter Samuel in het Bergportaal van de Sint- Servaaskerk te Maastricht dat in de jaren 1880 door Cuypers werd gerestaureerd. Hiermee wordt een tweede betekenis onthuld, want de gekruiste benen duiden ook op macht en wel meer in het bijzonder op rechtspraak.* De associatie met Johannes door de prachtige kop in de gevel links van het portaal transformeerde het vrouwenbeeldje in mijn hoofd tot Salom\u00e9 die haar oordeel danst en aan de overzijde zichzelf gespiegeld ziet. Dat spiegelen krijgt een commentaar in de laatste zin \u2014 <em>Dieu se fait connaitre<\/em> (God laat zich kennen), die ieder voor zich kan interpreteren, de een cynisch, de ander mild.
